Apparatus for the treatment of gases comprises a tower containing superimposed pairs of catalyst containers, the lower edge of each pairs of catalyst containers, the lower edge of each pair fitting into a U-shaped rim of the pair below. The spaces in the rims are filled with finely divided catalyst of the same composition as that in the containers.
