In an apparatus for the regulation of one temperature in relation to another. the controlling temperature as well as the one to be regulated is measured with a gas thermometer. whereby the pressure difference occurring as a result of the difference in the temperatures is used to operate a switch. which in its turn connects or disconnects a heating device with the result that the temperature becomes equalized. In applying the device to the operation of distilling columns. particularly to laboratory columns, the controlling air thermometer is located inside the distillation column. and the air thermometer required for measuring the temperature to be regulated is in the insulating jacket of the distillation column. This jacket can be heated. The apparatus is illustrated.
