            Hydrocarbon mixture obtained by the hydrogenation of CO, using the regular water gas under recycle conditions, is fractionated. and the fraction b.<200° and containing a high % of olefins is treated in the vapor phase with bleaching earth (“Tonsil Optimum” or “Granosil”).  If desired the isomerizing effect may be heightened by adding borylphosphate  or the like to the catalyst.  By such treatment the octane number of the gasoline product can be raised from 40 to 48, about 25 points.
