2827.   ROMAN, L. H.  [Aldehydes.]  French Patent 734,065, July 19, 1930.  Chem. Abs., vol. 27, 1933, p. 992.

Aldehydes such as CH2O are obtained by passing purified water gas, blast-furnace gases, etc., at 130°-200° and normal pressure over a catalyst composed of Ni, Fe, Co, Cu, Pt, or their oxides, the catalyst being regenerated by gases such as Cl, Br, I, N2, and NO.  The CH2O may be converted to alcohols, etc. by luminous energy, the rays of which are caused to pass through color filters to eliminate the useless or harmful rays for the desired transformation.
