2825. ----- [ROLLMAN, W. F.]  (Standard Oil Development Co.).  Method of Producing a Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen-Gas Mixture From Carbonaceous Materials.  United States Patent 2,527,197,  Oct. 24, 1950; appl. filed Feb. 17, 1945, Serial No.  578,436; 4 claims (Cl 48-206).  Chem. Abs., vol. 45, 1951, p. 334.

Mixture of CO and H2 is produced, and a fuel is burned to supply the heat for the reaction in the same enlarged confined space, but in different adjacent zones.  Solid material may be transferred from one zone to another without using conduits or valves.  The cylindrical sectors are arranged about a common axis within the same general confined space.  The zones are in continuous open communication.  Some are burning zones, some water-gas generating zones, and the remainder neutral zones.  The carbonaceous material is fluidized with air, partly burned in the 1st burning zone.  The partly burned material is withdrawn from a point above the bottom  of  the 1st burning zone and passed to the top of an adjoining neutral zone, down through the neutral zone as a dense suspension. then to an adjoining water-gas generation zone.  The water gas is not contaminated with flue gas from the burning zone.  3 foreign patents and 3 United States patents are cited.
