2793. ----- [ROELEN, O] (Studien- und Verwertungs-G. m.b. H.).  Desulfurizing Gases.  United States Patent 2,110,241, Mar. 8, 1938: appl. filed Oct. 31, 1935.  Chem. Abs., vol. 32. 1938, p. 3588

Describes multistage process for removing S in organic combination from a gas mixture containing CO and H2, which comprises treating such gas mixtures with Fe oxide to remove any substantial quantity of H2S present, treating the gas mixture for the decomposition of part of the organic S compounds at a temperature 300°-450° with the mixture of sulfurized Fe oxide and alkali metal carbonate, which results in another stage of the process,  thereupon treating the gas mixture with Fe oxide to remove part of the H2S formed in this treatment and passing the partly desulfurized gas mixture at a temperature of 150°-300°  in contact with a mixture of Fe oxide and a comparatively large % of an alkali-metal carbonate.
