2773. RIBLETT, E. W. (M. W. Kellogg Co.). Converting Methane and Carbon Dioxide Into Hydrogen and Carbon Monoxide. United States Patent 2,220,849, Nov. 5, 1940; appl. filed Aug. 29, 1938, Serial No. 212,702; 15 claims (Cl. 252-53). Chem. Zentralb., 1941, I, p. 2206; Chem. Abs., vol. 35, 1941, p. 1587.

Describes apparatus and a method of operation that involves flowing a mixture of CH4 and CO2 through a conversion zone where it is brought into contact, at a temperature of about 1,700°, 1st with a Co catalyst and then with a Ni catalyst, both catalysts promoting the formation of H2 and CO and the time of contact with the Co catalyst being of sufficient length substantially to remove S and S-containing compounds from the incoming gases.
