Preparation is given of a viscous oil with low pour point and cloud point. A mono-olefin, 8-18 C atoms per molecule, and a vinyl aromatic compound are heated with a catalyst consisting of silica and an amphoteric metal oxide until condensation. The temperature is 300°-600° F. The charge is 1-2 molar proportions of mono-olefin per molecule vinyl aromatic compound. The process may be applied to mixtures from cracking of paraffin waxes and paraffin products from the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. 4 United States patents cited.
