Effluent from hydrocarbon cracking is passed over a catalyst consisting of at least 1 of the group of a Mo, a Ni, or a W sulfide at 150°-350°, 1-50 atm. pressure, and space velocity of 300-500 vol. gas per catalyst vol. per hr., to selectively hydrogenate the 5% or less of C2H2 present.
