Catalyst such as Ni for the hydrogenation of oils, fats, and waxes is allowed with a noncatalyst metal such as Al, the alloy is treated with NaOH, in amount insufficient to remove all the Al, and the product is washed and treated with H₂ under raised temperature and pressure.
