2706. PIZZIGHELLI, R., AND SOCIETA ANON. CARBURANTI ITALIANI SINTETICI. [Hydrocarbons.] French Patent 707,607, Dec. 16, 1930. Chem. Abs., vol. 26, 1932, p. 838.

Liquid hydrocarbons, such as, benzine are synthesized by passing a gaseous mixture of CO and H2 over a catalyst composed of metals of the Fe group activated by oxides of Zn or Al (up to 30%) with the addition of Cu, the oxide of which is reducible at 180°-200° and acts as a reducing catalyst for the Fe. By this means the usual preliminary reduction of the Fe by H2 at 400° is avoided. Describes a suitable electrical heating tube for the gas passing to the catalyst.
