Reaction is effected between C oxides and H2 under 200-800 atm. pressure and at temperatures of 320°-500° in the presence of a catalytic mass comprising Fe in combined condition such as Fe (OH)3 and a difficultly reducible oxide such as that of W, Cr, or Mn. ZnO also may be used.
