Paraffin wax composed of materials of a molecular weight of at least 250 is heated under pressure (suitably about 40-140 atm.) and in the presence of a dehydrogenating and condensing catalyst such as molybdic acid, C and ZnCl2 to a temperature of about 400° to produce a reaction product containing a substantial proportion of constituents b. > 200° in vacuo and of only slightly less H content than the initial material. |
