2626. PECK, E. B. (Standard Oil Development Co.). Controlling Exothermic Reactions Such As Synthetic Production of Hydrocarbons From Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen. United States Patent 2,161,974, June 13, 1939; appl. filed January 21, 1937. Chem. Abs., vol. 33, 1939, p. 7528.

Method of controlling the temperature of gases undergoing exothermic catalytic reactions within the desired temperature limits comprises passing the reacting gases through a reaction zone in contact with a solid catalyst capable of effecting the desired reaction maintained in suspension within a fluid medium of sufficient quantity to absorb excess heat resulting from the exothermic reactions and then withdrawing the fluid medium from the reaction zone, removing the excess heat of the reaction from the fluid medium so withdrawn, and returning the same to the reaction zone.
