Mixtures of CO and H2 for the catalytic production of MeOH and other oxygenated organic compounds are obtained by the incomplete combustion of CH4, which may be mixed with about 1/2 its volume of O2 and the mixture injected into a mass of coke maintained at about 1,000°.
