To secure uniform temperature the catalyst is mixed with a conducting material and heated electrically; for example, for NH3 synthesis silica, asbestos, magnesia, or alumina is added to the Fe catalyst; for alcohols and acids from CO and H2, Cu, Ag, Al, coal, coke, or graphite is added to the ZnO-Cr2O3 catalyst.
