2598. ------. [PATART, G.] Catalytic Production of Alcohols. British Patent 247,177, Feb. 7, 1925. British Chem. Abs., B, 1927, p. 347; Chem. Abs., vol. 21, 1927, p. 592.

To produce higher oxygenated organic compounds, especially alcohols of higher molecular weight than MeOH, CO and H2 are caused to react under pressure in the presence of a catalyst and the products of low molecular weight are separated and resubjected to the catalytic treatment or to an auxiliary catalytic treatment of different character. Pressures of 100-500 atm. may be used and mixtures of ZnO with K2O, Cu oxide, or Cu may be used as catalysts.
