Conditions are employed that produce mainly higher alcohols and their ethers and ketones. A cyclic process is employed in which CO2 is eliminated, and the products are separated in a condenser system. The catalyst used may be formed of Ag, Cu, Zn, Mn, Mo, U, and V and a combination of an alkali or alkaline earth oxide and a metallic oxide of acid character, for example, chromates, manganates, molybdates, tungstates, uranates, and vanadates of Na, K, Rb, and Ba. Gives numerous details of operations and describes an apparatus.
