High-boiling mixtures of oxygenated organic compounds, produced as still bottoms in a 2-stage oxo process, are selectively oxidized by means of a O2-containing gas at temperatures 100°-300° F. and in presence of a metallic soap oxidation catalyst, whereby a mixture of fatty acids and alcohols is obtained.
