This relates to the manufacture of mixtures containing CO and H2 by treating hydrocarbons with air or other oxidizing gas at a raised temperature in the presence or absence of catalysts. The improvement consists in using an alloy of Fe, Cr, and Ni, which has been fused in vacuo, for constructing the parts of the reaction chamber that come into contact with the gases.
