Ni(OH)2 or NiCO32(or 3)Ni(OH)2 is prepared by precipitation of an aqueous Ni salt containing the carrier with aqueous alkali or its carbonate, dried, ground, reduced by H at 450-500, cooled to 200, the H replaced by N, and the N gradually replaced by air.
