Fatty acids are obtained by oxidizing high-molecular aliphatic hydrocarbons b.

< 360° in the presence of heavy metal catalysts with compounds of group 4 of the periodic system as promoters. The process leads to a fatty acid content of at most 15% in the oxidation mixture.
