Hydrocarbons, alcohols, and other compounds, particularly MeOH, are made from gaseous mixtures of CO, H2, and CO2, which contain at least 2 vol. of H2 for 1 vol. of CO, obtained by passing a mixture of 1 vol. of O2 with at least 2 vol. of steam over charcoal heated to about 700°.
