Method of producing a gas free from CH₄ and in which the volume ratio of CO to H₂ is equal to 1 : 2 consists in distilling the solid fuels under high pressure, 5-50 atm., using a gasification agent composed of O₂ and water vapor to which a quantity of CO₂ has been added.
