CO is hydrogenated to polymembered hydrocarbons in the presence of Fe catalysts at 5-25 atm. pressure and 200°-300°. The catalyst is made by precipitation from metal salt solution on to a support such as kieselguhr, reducing with H2 or other gases, at 200°-400°, followed by mild oxidation by steam. The catalyst contains ferrous oxide. Activators such as difficultly reducible metal oxides (Al2O3), Cu, and alkali compounds can be added. |
