Mixture of organic compounds such as hydrocarbons is treated with an aqueous phase containing thiourea or urea, whereby the straight-chain hydrocarbons are separated as crystalline complexes with the ureas. To avoid the formation of emulsions, substances like NaNO₂, (NH₄)₂CrO_4, NaIO₃, NH₄ phosphate are added to the aqueous phase. The solution should have a pH value 6-9 obtained by adding H₂O-soluble fatty acids.
