2189. ------. [MCGRATH, H. G.] (M. W. Kellogg Co.). Selective Hydrogenation of Aldehydes. United States Patent 2,543,038, Feb. 27, 1951; appl. filed Dec. 30, 1947, Serial No. 794,651; 11 claims (Cl. 260-540). Chem. Abs., vol. 45, 1951, p. 7136.

In an aldehyde-ketone mixture obtained in the catalytic hydrogenation of oxides of C, the aldehydes can be selectively hydrogenated to alcohols, without substantial hydrogenation of the ketones, by subjecting the mixture to hydrogenation at 75°-575° F. and 15-2,000 p. s. i. absolute in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst such as a mixture of Cu oxide and Cr oxide in a ratio of about 1:2. 1 literature ref. and 6 United States patents cited.
