Crude products obtained by Oxo synthesis from CO, H₂, and olefins over Co catalyst are first freed from volatile Co compounds entrained thereby and then steam distilled to recover to aldehydes and, if desired, finally reduced to alcohols. Recovery of the Co compounds takes place by treating with H₂ at about 150° and 40-50 atm.
