2092. LYNCH, C. S, WASSERBACH, T. B, AND GUY, W. R. F. (Standard Oil Development Co.). Method of Making Commercial Mixtures of Hydrogen and Carbon Monoxide. United States Patent 2,541,657, Feb. 13, 1951; appl. filed Mar. 7, 1947, Serial No. 733,176; 4 claims (Cl. 48-196).

To obtain an increased amount of CO from a normally gaseous hydrocarbon, such as CH4, without causing a corresponding increase in the H2 content, the following process is used. In one reaction zone, CH4 is reformed to CO and H2. In another zone, CH4 is oxidized to CO2 and steam. The steam is removed from a portion of the CO2 and steam mixture, and the CO2 is reduced to CO, which is recovered separately from the previously mentioned CO and H2. This gives an added amount of CO to be used in obtaining desired ratios of H2 : CO mixtures. 5 United States patents cited.
