2087. LUTHER, M., AND SÖNKSEN, H. (I. G. Farbenindustrie A. G.). [Oxygenated Organic Compounds.] German Patent 548,188, Mar. 2, 1926. Chem. Abs., vol. 26, 1932, p. 3513.

Crude mixture of oxygenated organic compounds b. >150°, obtained by the catalytic hydrogenation of CO, is treated with a partly or completely dehydrated salt capable of forming a hydrate, for example, anhydrous MgCl2 or CaCl2. Solid molecular compounds of the salt with the oxygenated organic compounds are precipitated, and by separating and decomposing the molecular compounds, for example, by treatment with H2O, mixtures of oxygenated organic compounds are obtained, which are of better color and smell than the crude mixture and can be used as lacquer solvents or for the manufacture of softening agents. The precipitation of the molecular compounds can be aided by cooling and addition of benzine. Gives examples.
