2076. ------. [LOWES, A. P., WHITE, D. E., AND IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, LTD.] Lubricating Oils. British Patent 485,165, May 11, 1938. Chem. Abs., vol. 32, 1938, p. 7716.

In manufacturing condensation products by condensating a chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbon of high molecular weight with an aromatic hydrocarbon, for example, C6H6, PhMe, by the aid of AlCl3, the upper layer is separated after the condensation and treated at ordinary or slightly elevated temperature (30°-40°) with a solid alkaline-reacting material or with an aqueous solution of NH or of an alkaline NH salt to prevent the formation of an intractable oil emulsion when the excess of C6H6 or PhMe is steam distilled off. Chlorinated paraffin wax is preferred as the aliphatic constituent.
