A hydrocarbon product from the hydrogenation of CO is fractionated into a naphtha fraction and a gas-oil fraction. The latter is cracked at 825°-925° F. in the presence of a catalyst. A fraction b. 210°-250° F. is recovered and combined with the naphtha fraction. The combined fractions are reformed at 850°-1,000° F. under 100-400 p. s. i. pressure in the presence of H2 and of a catalyst containing an oxide of a group VI metal. A fraction b. 210°-250° F. is recovered, and the aromatics are separated by solvent extraction, followed by treatment of the extract with a paraffinic hydrocarbon such as C5H12. |
