Reaction mixture comprising CO and H₂ is passed at a temperature of about 350°-475° and under a pressure of about 280 atm. or higher over a catalyst prepared by heating a double chromate of an N base, such as NH₄ and Mn, to its spontaneous decomposition temperature. General reference is made to the use of a similar catalyst in various reactions.
