2029. ------. [LAZIER, W. A.]. Catalytic Production of Oxygenated Carbon Compounds. British Patent 301,806, June 12, 1926. Chem. Abs., vol. 23, 1929, p. 4306.

Catalysts for use in reactions such as that of CO with H2 or steam or in dehydrogenation of compounds such at EtOH are prepared by heating to decomposition a double chromate of a nitrogenous base such as NH4 or pyridine and 1 of the metals Zn, Cu, Cd, Mg, Mn, Ag, and Fe. The catalysts may be rendered more active by leaching with a "weak" acid such as 5-10% HOAc. Examples are given of the production of MeOH and higher alcohols from CO and H2. Preparation of basic ZnNH4 chromate, MnNH4 chromate, and Zn bichromate tetrapyridine described.
