Mixtures of C₁₀-C₁₉ alkenes are separated into C₁₀-C₁₂, b. 165°-220°, C₁₃-C₁₄, b. 220°-255°, C₁₅-C₁₆, b. 255°-295°, and C₁₇-C₁₉ b. 295°-330°, fractions, and each fraction is converted, catalytically, with CO and H₂, to the aldehyde. These aldehydes, or the alcohols or acids derived from them, are readily separable by distillation into pure compounds iso-AmOH, b. 130°, and see-AmOH, b. 113°, were obtained from isobutylene. 1-Butene gave AmOH, b. 138°.
