In the catalytic conversion of CH₄-containing gases with steam and CO₂ at about 925°, a part of the synthesis gas is passed over an Fe oxide catalyst with steam at about 500°, the CO₂ separated from the H₂ and together with fresh steam added to the CH₄-containing initial gas, the H₂ being used to heat the catalyst and the steam.
