In producing synthesis gas of definite composition, the fuel before being blown into the reaction chamber is mixed with O₂, steam of 1,000°-1,200° temperature is passed into the reaction zone, and the temperature of the chamber is maintained at all points above the decomposition temperature of the high-molecular tarry substances and S compounds.
