Production of H₂ and CO through conversion of gases containing hydrocarbons, such as coke-oven, cracking, and natural gases, by means of steam and/or CO₂. The gas-steam-CO₂ mixture is heated in a towerlike heat accumulator in such a way that the temperature difference between the gas mixture and the heat-accumulator charge does not exceed 300°.
