1920. ------. [KOPPERS, H.] (Koppers Co.). Hydrocarbon Synthesis From Producer Gas. United States Patent 2,349,438, May 23, 1944; appl. filed Nov. 25, 1939, Serial No. 306,077, in Germany Dec. 3, 1938; 1 claim (Cl. 252-373). Chem. Abs., vol. 39, 1945, p. 1040.

Producer gas, rich in CO2, is mixed with coke oven gas, natural gas, or residual gas from the synthesis of hydrocarbons or a similar hydrocarbon gas and heated in the presence of steam to 1,100°-1,200°. On account of this heating CO2 is converted with the hydrocarbons of the coke oven gas, particularly that containing CH4 into CO and H2. At the same time the higher molecule C and S compounds present in the producer gas are converted into low S compounds, especially H2S, which can be removed more easily. The mixture of gases is so calculated as to produce in the final reaction gas CO and H2 in a ratio of 1:1-2, which is suitable for synthesis of hydrocarbons, such as fuel and lubricating oils.
