Mixture of tar oils, b. 180º-350º, and paraffin hydrocarbon oils is exposed to the action of 0.2-10% of AlCl₃, free of H₂O, at room temperature or below. The layer of tar oil-paraffin-hydrocarbon oil is separated and is purified as usual with NaOH, H₂O, and fuller's earth.
