1849. KIMBERLIN, C. N. (Standard Oil Development Co.). [Fluidized Catalyst.] French Patent 943,408, Mar. 8, 1949; appl. filed Mar. 18, 1947. Chem.-Ztg., vol. 74, No. 9, 1950, p. 120; Chem. Zentralb., 1950, I, p. 1174.

Catalyst consists of 25-40% and 2-7% ThO2, and if desired up to 1% of Ni on a carrier of kieselguhr or alumina, the whole being held together by a binder of sodium silicate. The Co and Th oxides are precipitated from aqueous solutions, mixed with the carrier and binder, dried, and reduced. The catalyst finds use in the hydrocarbon synthesis from CO and H2. The catalyst may be formed into a solid bed or used in particle size of 40-80 microns as a fluidized catalyst.
