Gives process for separating mixtures of straight- and branched-chain, high -molecular fatty acids obtained by the catalytic conversion of olefins with CO and H2 and oxidation of the resulting aldehydes and containing no great amounts of unsaponifiable or unsaponified substances or compounds insoluble in benzine. Fractions of such mixtures, boiling within a narrow temperature range, are treated in the cold with organic solvents, such as methyl formate. The branched-chain fatty acids dissolve, but the straight-chain fatty acids remain unchanged.
