1841.  KEULEMANS, A. I. M. (Shell Development Co.). Production of Oxygenated Compounds. United States Patent 2,587,858, Mar. 4, 1952; appl. filed May 1, 1948. Serial No. 24,669; 5 claims (Cl. 260-604). Chem. Abs., vol. 46, 1952, p. 5294.

CO and H2 in a suitable ratio, are reacted with Co in a suitable Co-containing mass in a separate reactor and the Co hydrocarbonyl is continuously fed to the reactor containing an olefin. Thus, at 80° and 150 atm., 45% CO and 55% H2, preheated, were passed through a mass of Co on pumice at the rate of 2,200 1. per 1. of the Co-containing mass per hr., and a C1-C8 hydrocarbon fraction containing 89% olefins and 11% paraffins was passed through the same Co on pumice at the rate of 2.2 1. per 1. of the Co-containing mass per hr. and the combined gases passed into a separate Oxo reactor consisting of 8% Co on pumice at the rate of 0.5 kg. per 1. of catalyst per hr. at 160° and 150 atm. to give 25% by weight of low-boiling hydrocarbons, 64% C8-H9 alcohols, and 11% by weight of higher boiling oxygenated products.
