1820.  ------. [KEITH, P. C.] (Hydrocarbon Research, Inc.). Synthesis Gas. United States Patent 2,642,346, June 16, 1953. Chem. Abs., vol. 47, 1953, p. 8997.

Apparatus for the efficient utilization of the exothermic heat of oxidation in the production of H2 and CO from CH4. A granular solid thermophore or catalyst is circulated countercurrent to the gas stream to provide efficient heat transfer from the product gases back to the reaction zone and to preheat the reactants. Preferred operating conditions require the reaction zone maintained at 1,650º-1,850º F. and an O2 feed of at least 35% and preferably 95% purity.
