In a mixture produced by the reaction of gaseous hydrocarbons, such as CH₄, C₂H₆, or C₃H₈, with H₂O vapor, the ratio of CO to H₂ is increased by adding to the starting components CO₂ in suitable proportion. The reaction is effected at 700° -900° in the presence of a Ni catalyst.
