1722. ------. [INTERNATIONAL HYDROCARBON SYNTHESIS CO.] [Synthetic Diesel Oil From Water Gas.] Netherlands Patent 58,224, Sept. 16, 1946. Chem. Abs., vol. 41, 1947, p. 4634.

Yield of the 200°-320° fraction is increased by alkali washing, once in 8 hr., of the filtrate from the catalyst, which is used in suspension in a liquid medium. For example, into a reaction vessel of 40 1. a synthetic gas containing 58 vol. % H2 and 29 vol. % CO is fed at 11 atm. pressure at a rate of 1.5 m.3, normal temperature and pressure, per hr. The vessel contains a suspension of 2 kg. reduced Co catalyst in 25 1. diesel oil. The catalyst had Co 33, MgO 1.5, ThO2 1.5, and diatomaceous earth 64%. Temperature was kept at about 190°. About 1.25 1. oil with catalyst per hr. was filtered and washed well with about 10% by volume of a 5% NaOH solution and with H2O after that. Reaction products were distilled off and the rest returned to the reaction vessel.
