1634.  ------.  [INTERNATIONAL CATALYTIC OIL PROCESS CORP.]  Contacting Gases and Solids: Catalytic Apparatus.  British Patent 596,870. Mar. 1, 1945.

In gas-phase operations carried out in presence of solid contact material that is regenerated after use, the contact material of a size retained on a 100-mesh screen, but having particles not larger than about 15 mm. in diameter, is moved as a descending compact bed through both the reaction and regeneration zones while being raised from a lower to a higher level.  The process may be used for the catalytic conversion of hydrocarbons in presence of activated clays or synthetic gels, which may be in the form of pellets or spheres.  Synthesis of hydrocarbons from CO and H2 is effected at 390º F., using an Fe group metal on kieselguhr catalyst activated with Th or mg; wax is removed from the catalyst in the regeneration zone by treatment with a hydrocarbon gas or vapor.
