MeOH is prepared by passing a mixture of CO and H2 over a catalyst composed of 4 ZnO, CrO3 at 300º-400º and under high pressure. The catalyst is prepared by suspending ZnO or Zn(OH)2 in H2O and treating it at ordinary temperature with a slight excess of CrO3. If the catalyst contains alkali salts, higher alcohols are formed. |
