      1622.  IMHAUSEN, A., AND STAENNINGS, C.  Aliphatic Carboxylic Acids.  British Patent 491,927, Sept. 9, 1938.  British Chem. Abs., 1938, B, p. 1389; Chem. Abs., vol. 33, 1939. p. 1347.

Aliphatic carboxylic acids are produced by the oxidation by means of oxidizing gases of hydrocarbons that have been produced by hydrogenation of oxides of C, for example, by the Fischer process.  The oxidation may be effected in the presence of catalysts, such as heavy metal salts of unsaturated acids of the type CnH2n-xO2, in which n is >15 and x is .5.  In an example, the initial hydrocarbon has a b. p. > 250º, and the oxidation is effected at 115º by means of air in the presence of a catalyst: the product contains stearic, palmitic, myristic, lauric, and capric acids.
