Reaction of C oxides with H2 or gases rich in H2, such as CH4, or steam, is catalyzed by contact masses that contain Cu, Ag, or Au or their oxides or Zn together with elements of the 8th periodic group or their compounds. Mn, Ce, Cr, Mo, W, Ti, Sb, Bi, and Zr or their compounds may be added. The products are mainly unsaturated hydrocarbons, but some MeOH, may also be formed.
